Anyone can stop by their favorite branch and write down how they plug into the library and the connections they’ve made thanks to the library. Or tell us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using #MyLibrary and tagging @alachualibrary. Does the library connect you with great books, free internet services, fun programs, or all the above? Let the library and your community know!
“The 2022 National Library Week theme aligns perfectly with the Alachua County Library District’s mission of building a better community by creating opportunities to participate, connect, and discover,” said Library Director Shaney T. Livingston. “Stop by during National Library Week to try a new program, pick up a book, and share all the ways your library connects you with the community.”
During National Library Week, the Library District will also launch new programs and resume popular events by registration and add more evening hours at the Headquarters Library and Millhopper and Tower Road branches. The Alachua County Library District offers an array of free programs, materials, and resources that are available in person or from the comfort of home, including:
- More than 821,600 items for checkout
- Nearly 122,000 digital books and audiobooks
- Computers and Wi-Fi
- Programs for all ages, including story times, conversational English clubs, and career skills classes
- Seed Library with flower, vegetable, and herb seeds
- hoopla digital streaming movies, television shows, and music
During this celebratory week, the library will also observe three important dates:
- National Library Workers Day Tuesday, April 5 - Thank your favorite library workers in person or online with #NLWD22.
- National Library Outreach Day Wednesday, April 6 - Celebrate library outreach and all the ways libraries work to meet people where they are.
- Take Action for Libraries Day Thursday, April 7 - We invite patrons to contact their Congressional representatives and ask them to fund libraries.
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national campaign sponsored by the American Library Association and observed by libraries of all types across the country each April.
