The Alachua County Library District received the Community Partnership of the Year award from the Foster Grandparent Program during the 51st Annual Volunteer Recognition. The ACLD provides support to the program by helping prepare volunteers to be more successful when working with youth. Library staff teach digital literacy skills classes monthly to program volunteers. The ACLD also helps with training new volunteers on how to effectively read to youth. The Foster Grandparents Program has a mission to match low-income volunteers aged 55 and over with children and young people who have special needs, in order to increase opportunities for them to succeed, while providing challenging and rewarding experiences for the volunteers. The program is part of Alachua County Community Support Services.
