Northstar Digital Literacy provides basic computer skills training for job seekers or anyone looking to improve their digital literacy skills for work or their daily life. Northstar explains basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online. Self-guided online modules will test your ability to perform tasks based on these skills, including:

  • Essential Computer Skills - Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows OS, Mac OS
  • Essential Software Skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs
  • Using Technology in Daily Life - Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, Your Digital Footprint.

Northstar includes learning resources to support adult learners to master skills. Learning resources include classroom curriculum that can be used in person or remotely, and Northstar Online Learning, which provides self-directed instruction and practice for individuals. When you pass assessments, you can obtain a Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate. Certificates provide an important credential for employment, as even entry-level jobs increasingly require basic computer skills.

This resource was made available through a generous donation in honor of former Alachua County Sheriff Stephen Oelrich, to support the community in improving digital literacy and job-seeking skills.
