Show and Tell: Indonesian Puppets

My nana is the person to blame for my travel bug. She took me out west to the Grand Canyon when I was 12 - which was the first big trip that I can really remember. I think what started it was really due to her stories and the souvenirs she picked up. I was probably about 14 when she went to Australia and Indonesia to visit a friend who was living there at the time. Seeing the pictures she took and the cool puppets she brought back always sparked my imagination and made me want to travel. She took me to the UK when I graduated college - it was the first time I had ever been out of the country - and then I decided I pretty much wanted to see the whole world. I haven't gotten to do that (yet), but I still love to find out about other countries and cultures - and I now have the puppets to remind me of that wish. Check out the video below to see the puppets and hear facts about Indonesia. (Also check out the Center for Puppetry Arts and The World of Puppetry) If you'd like to learn more about either subject, I have some books gathered for you below or check out our eSource, Gale in Context: Elementary!
