Seed kits at Tower Road Branch

Planting season is here and seeds are flying off the shelf across the seed libraries at the Alachua County Library District. At Tower Road, you can pick up 1 seed kit and 1 supplement each time you visit.

Kits

In each kit you will get 5 different kinds of seeds.

Vegetables - In each vegetable kit will be at least 1 root vegetable, 1 leafy vegetable, 1-2 fruiting vegetables, edible seeds, or other types of vegetables.
Typical finds: corn, beans, peas, tomato, cucumber, winter squash, summer squash, lettuce, cabbage, spinach, turnips, beets, carrots or radish.

Flowers - Flower kits include flowers and ornamental plants. 
Typical finds: marigolds, sunflowers, snapdragons, hollyhock, delphinium, sweet peas, zinia, and other ornamental plants and flowers.

Mix -  Mixed kits will include at least 3 edible plants, usually a root vegetable, a leafy vegetable and a fruiting vegetable. It will also include 2 different types of flowers. Usually these flowers will have some kind of herbal, medicinal, or edible quality, but not always.
Typical finds: roselle, echinacea, wildflowers, marigolds, passion flowers, asparagus, loufa and sunflowers as well as the vegetables listed above.

 

Supplements

Supplements will have 2 different kinds of seeds and will usually be comprised of seeds that not everyone might want to plant either because of space committment or types of plants. These are available on a limited, first come, first serve basis.

Herbal supplements typically will have 2 of the following:
Dill
Basil
Cilantro
Oregano
Parsley
Thyme
And others

Hot pepper supplements may include 2 of the following:
Habanero
JalapeƱo
Ancho
Waialua
Hot Salsa Blend
Pepperoncini
or Thai Hybrid

Fruit and melon supplements may contain 2 of the following:
Watermelons
Cantaloupes
Honeydew
Papaya Tree seeds
Passion Flowers (Passion Fruit)
and other fruits and melons as available.
