[What is POSE?]
Pose (stylized as POSE) is a TV drama series about New York City's ballroom culture scene in the 1980s and early 1990s. Its story centers on gay and transgender experiences, the AIDS crisis, and aspects of capitalism. It has an ensemble cast, predominantly featuring people of color. It first premiered in 2018, and its third and final season premiered May 2021.
Ballroom culture was a Black and Latin American underground LGBTQ subculture that organized dance competitions where people "walk" for prizes and trophies. The most notable influence of ballroom culture on mainstream society is voguing, a dance style originating in Harlem ballrooms during the latter half of the 20th century. Language used in ballrooms has also had an influence on current drag culture. Common terms among the LGBTQ community (such as "shade" and "spilling tea") can trace their origins to New York's ballrooms.
