Image"National Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure. Our mission is to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day...for personal protection, for law enforcement, for the disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage, now they're detecting cancer and seizures...things even humans cannot do." - nationaldogday.com
Each year, August 26 marks a day of celebration, appreciation, and advocation for our canine friends. National Dog Day was founded by Colleen Paige in 2004 to raise awareness for dogs in need of rescue and adoption. Check out some of our local organizations if you want to help with rescue efforts, foster dogs in need of a home, or become the forever family for a dog ready to love and be loved.
From family favorites like the colossal Clifford, to the lovable Lassie, there are many classic dogs from both books and film that we know and love. Search our library catalog for a wide range of materials about dogs, fit for dog lovers of all ages.
