On the Court

Shoyo Hinata has been obsessed with volleyball ever since he watched the Karasuno High School team in the Nationals. Inspired by the player called "The Little Giant", he joins his school's volleyball club as its only member. Eventually, he has the opportunity—and the number of rookie players willing to join him—to play against other school teams, only to lose in their first match against the team favored to win the tournament, including their skilled setter, Tobio Kageyama. A rivalry sparks between Kageyama and Hinata, and Hinata vows to defeat him in a game. The only problem is... they both end up at Kurasuno High School where they will play on the same side of the volleyball court.

Shōyō Hinata
Protagonist

Despite his short stature and lack of a real team in middle school, Hinata is determined to be a great volleyball player. He practiced with the few classmates he could convince to pass a ball his way and, after losing his first real game against another middle school team and gaining a rival in Tabio Kageyama, he practiced with the girls' and local housewives' teams.

Athletic, fast, and a good jumper, Hinata is thrilled to join the Kurasuno High School volleyball team, only to find out his new rival is attending the same school! He and Kageyama must learn to play as teammates... or not play at all!

Tobio Kageyama

Tabio Kageyama
Dueteragonist

Nicknamed the "King of the Court" by his former teammates for his habit of complaining about their performance and ordering them around during gameplay, Kageyama is a skilled volleyball setter and truly passionate about the sport. He comes off as an arrogant, overbearing perfectionist at the start.

After failing to get into his first choice private school, Shiratorizawa, and entering Kurasuno High School, his ability to play volleyball with the school team is threatened. He and Hinata must put their rivalry aside to show they can be proper teammates, or he'll be banned from playing as his favored roll as a setter.
