Commemorate the 151st anniversary of the end of African American slavery in the United States at the 9th annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cone Park Branch. This Juneteenth Celebration is a spirited community event with music, exhibits, food, refreshments and door prizes. The event also celebrates Black Music Month to recognize the rich and influential legacy of black music.

Join the Alachua County Library District and its community partners to celebrate the affirmation of human rights, equality and freedom from the injustice of slavery at this year’s Juneteenth Celebration.
This celebration shares the history of Juneteenth. Annual Juneteenth celebrations began in Texas and slowly spread to the rest of the nation. Until the 1970s, celebrations were limited. Since then 36 states have recognized Juneteenth as a holiday or day of observance.
On June 18, Cone Park Branch will be open 12 to 7 p.m. for this event, regular Saturday hours (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) will resume Saturday, June 25.
