Softies can be cute or scary or yummy looking, super easy or more complex. The Sew-a-Softie idea started as a way to encourage young people and adults who have never sewn to give it a try. It was started in Australia by Trixi Symonds, who continues to promote the idea on her website. For further encouragement, check out RedTedArt. On both sites you can find project ideas and sewing tutorials so you can get started right away – summer is already in full swing!
And, of course, the library also has resources to engage kids in this fun activity. Here are some books to check out:
Sewing School 2: lessons in machine sewing by Amie Petronis Plumley & Andria Lisle This book is great for those ready to use a sewing machine!
Seamless Sewing Projects by Veronica Yang
Get Quilting with Angela & Chloe: 14 Projects for Kids to Sew by Angela Walters
