The High Springs Branch Expansion/Renovation Celebration welcomed special guests, community members and library users with a program, ribbon cutting, reception and open house.

The program started with Library Director Alachua County Library District (ACLD) Shaney T. Livingston thanking library staff for a job well done. She thanked the Facilities Team hard work in constructing and completing the newly added 3,200 sq. ft. which created a total of 8,200 sq. ft. of new and renovated space. She thanked for branch staff (pictured), library staff, contractor and all those involved in completely the project while continuting to provide library services to the community. High Springs Mayor Byran Williams thanked the Library District for investing in the High Springs community and supporting economic development via a strong library system that provides library, community and educational services.

Chair ACLD Foundation Puspha Kalra presented a $35,000 check to Library Director ACLD Shaney T. Livingston. This generous donation helped fund the Snuggle Up Center and the Teen Space. The Snuggle Up Center provides an inviting comfortable space for parents to snuggle up and read with their children. It is well stocked with books, materials and two Early Learning Computers equipped with educational games and programs. A large mural designed byThemeworks of High Springs captures the area’s natural environment and bubbling springs and engages children in discovery. The new dynamic Teen Space offers a place to hang out with friends, study, read, play games, participate in programs and use computers with wifi.

The Friends of the Library made a generous donation for the quiet reading room which provides a place to relax, read, study or work on a laptop.

The reception was held in the new, larger meeting room that will be used for library and community programs. Library users now have access to two study rooms for tutoring or studying. Library visitors could see the two new 400-gallon rain barrels and learned how they will be used for irrigation to conserve water.
The GFWC High Springs New Century Woman's Club provided refreshments for the reception and the Friends of the High Springs Library donated celebration cakes. Thompson's Flower Shop decorated for the occasion with beautiful flower arrangements. Other contributions included individual bags of peanuts from Golden Peanut & Tree Nuts of High Springs and pens from Kelly D. Barber, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. The Library District marked this event with souvenir magnets listing library hours of operation and water bottles for all guests to take home.
