Halloween Events throughout the Library District

It’s that time of year again to pull out the skeletons and hang up the cobwebs. Time to sharpen up the knives and get ready to carve out a few pumpkins. Halloween is upon us and it's a popular time of year in Alachua County. Everyone gets the chance to tap into their spooky side at Halloween and the library has several in-person events in October to help the whole family with brewing up a bubbling cauldron of fun.

Monster Corner Bookmarks: Hawthorne Branch, Tuesday Oct. 11, 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.  Use your imagination to create your very own corner bookmark. Make Halloween themed vampires, werewolves, minions and more. Registration is required at least 12 hours before the event. Check out the Monster Corner Bookmarks event on our calendar to register.

Paper Strip Pumpkin Art: Micanopy Branch, Saturday Oct. 15, 2 to 3 p.m. Create a unique pumpkin piece of art. Use strips of colorful paper an collage together a work of Halloween art. For ages 3-11. Check out the Paper Strip Pumpkin Art event on our calendar for more details.

Halloween at the Library: Millhopper Branch, Tuesday Oct. 18, from 3 to 4 p.m. Bring your little ghouls and goblins to the Millhopper Branch for Halloween stories, songs and a crafts. Don't forget to dress in costume! For ages 5-11. Registration is required at least 12 hours before the event. Check out the Halloween at the Library event on our calendar to register.

What better way to show off your Halloween spirit than to have a party. If you are planning a Halloween party this year take a look at our Halloween Party Blog for books on all the best haunted party games, music and of course ideas to keep all your part guest appetite under control. No need for hungry zombies at the party.

Sugar Skull Craft: Headquarters Library, Thursday Oct. 20, 4 to 5 p.m. Learn some basic hand sewing techniques while making your own Day of the Dead or Halloween-themed sugar skull plush. These bright skulls can be customized to fit your own personality. This program is a part of Headquarters Library’s TeenTober programming series, which features a different program every Thursday of October, designed specifically for our teenaged patrons. Pumpkin Decorating: Headquarters Library, Thursday Oct. 27, 4 to 5 p.m. Get in the Fall spirit and decorate a mini pumpkin. Use paint, fabric, paper, clay, sequins and more to show off your spooky creativity; no carving required. Completed works of pumpkin art can be taken home or put up for display in the library. For ages 12-18. This program is a part of Headquarters Library’s TeenTober programming series, which features a different program every Thursday of October designed specifically for our teenaged patrons. Scary Movie Night: High Springs Branch, Thursday Oct. 27, 3 to 5 p.m. Join us for a scary movie, snacks, and treats. We will be showing the movie The RingThis program is part of the TeenTober programming series, which features a different program every Thursday in October. What do you do on a dark rainy night in October when the shadows creep into your room? Turn on the television and put a movie on of course. Halloween movies are to die for and we put together some of the best titles you can borrow from the ACLD. Check out the best Halloween Cult Classic available.

Halloween Movie Spooktacular: Cone Park Branch, Friday Oct. 28, 3 to 4:30 p.m. To celebrate Halloween, teens are invited to the Cone Park Branch for a showing of the classic 80s film, “The Gate.” Please join us for some spooky fun but be sure to register first. Halloween Horror Trivia: Micanopy Branch, Saturday Oct. 29, 2 to 3 p.m. Come join us for a Jeopardy-style horror themed trivia game. Test your knowledge about books, movies, and legends from the horror genre. For ages 12-18. Check out the Halloween Horror Trivia event on our calendar for more details.

Spooktacular Fun at the Library: Hawthorne Branch, Monday Oct. 31, 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Come have a hauntingly good time with our spooky games and more. Wear your costume, if you would like to, and join us for a spooky treasure hunt, monster games, sound effects/mysterious music, and crafty fun.
