Wind chimes are percussion instruments created from suspended tubes, bells, or other objects that make sounds when struck against each other or a base while being moved by the wind. They come in different shapes and sizes, and can be made from metals, glass, wood, or even shells.
There are lots of materials and designs you can use to make your own wind chimes. Learn how to craft your own wind chime for gentle music in your garden, on your balcony, or from a tree in your yard. You can substitute materials and methods as you please; there are numerous ways to make a wind chime.
Materials:
- Wooden dowel or a stick
- Twine or string
- Bells or tubes
- Decorative beads (optional)
Cut 5 pieces of twine or string. The amount of twine or string you use for each strand will depend on the size of your stick, and the length of the pattern you want for your wind chime. You could have strands that are all the same size, or cut them at varying lengths. For my wind chime, I cut 5 pieces of string into 24 inch pieces, and trimmed them when necessary.
Decorate each piece of string with the beads and bells, leaving enough of the string free for hanging them from the dowel. Secure each strand to the dowel in the desired pattern for your wind chime. When you're done, your wind chime will be ready to be put on display!
