Jellyfish Facts and Photos

Why are jellyfish amazing?   Jellyfish don't have brains!

What are some other interesting jellyfish facts?   They are not really fish because they have no backbones. They have long tentacles that sting their prey. They move forward by squirting water out of their mouths. They have been around since before the dinosaurs. They float on ocean currents in both warm and cold waters. They can be found deep in the ocean as  well as in shallow, coastal areas. Some sea turtles will eat jellyfish.

For more information for kids about jellyfish, take a look at Science Kids. There are some beautiful photos of different kinds of jellyfish at Cool Facts for Kids.

Rhymes

"Jelly Fish" by Debbie Hasbrook

Jelly fish, jelly fish swimming in the sea,
Floating in the water up where I can see.
I have to be careful, don’t come too near,
Your tentacles might sting, I’m out of here.

"Fish Named Jelly" by Debbie Hasbrook

If I was going to be a fish,
I’d be a fish named jelly.
Instead of swimming, I would float,
So everyone could see me

I’d have no fins, no eyes, no tail,
Just a soft and see through body.
And long tentacles floating down,
To catch the things that feed me.
