September is National Library Card Sign-up Month.  

Your library card gives you access to more than 1 million items, including books, eBooks, audiobooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, DVDs, and CDs. You can also use your library card to access many databases, check out unique items from the Library of Things, borrow a WiFi2Go mobile hotspot, and access thousands of movies and television shows with online streaming services.

Here are 12 facts/benefits of having a library card with the Alachua County Library District.

  • Love Audiobooks, but don’t love the high cost of streaming services? The ACLD offers thousands of Audiobooks and eAudiobook titles for free with your library card.
  • Get access to thousands of movies and television shows through free online streaming services like hoopla.
  • Stream music for free and check out CDs from our collection of more than 375,000 titles. 
  • Need WiFi access for your weekend trip? The ACLD has free WiFi2Go hot spots ready to check out at any branch.
  • The ACLD has a vast and diverse collection of recreational reading materials to satisfy every interest.
  • The ACLD has 12 library locations throughout Alachua County. Each has its own unique amenities, including Quiet Reading Rooms, Study Rooms, and Free Wi-Fi.
  • Beat the heat and relax at the library, we have free Wi-Fi, free computer access, free reading materials, and air conditioning. 
  • Check out our extensive collection of current and popular graphic novels and manga titles.
  • Looking for a free place to record your podcast or acoustic music? We have a free StudioSpace with recording equipment and editing software.
  • Thinking of starting a vegetable garden? We have free seeds specifically selected for our region in our Seed Library.
  • If crafting and creating is your thing, we offer many MakerSpace programs, sewing classes, Cosplay Clubs, and ArtSpace.
  • The University of Florida and Santa Fe College students who live in Alachua County are eligible for an ACLD Library Card. All you need is a current Alachua County address to get a Library Card.

Get A Library Card

Alachua County residents age 18 and older can register at any library location with photo identification and proof of residency.

To sign up for a card, please bring one of the following forms of identification:

  • Any current photo ID with Florida address
  • If the photo ID does not have the current Florida address, residency can be verified with:
    • Voter's Registration Card
    • Rent or utility receipt
    • Personal checkbook with imprinted name and address
    • Property tax notice
    • Name and address on mail with canceled postage, including forwarded mail
    • Telephone listing in a current telephone directory

To get a library card for a minor (ages 4-17), the parent or legal guardian must have their own photo ID plus a form of ID for the child, such as a:

  • School report card
  • School immunization record
  • Health insurance card
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
