National Voter Registration Day

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is on September 28, 2021. Florida residents 18 and older can register to vote at any library branch. Florida residents who are at least 16 are eligible to preregister to vote as well. NVRD is a collaborative, nonpartisan effort across the nation to encourage citizens to register to vote. Today, the Census Bureau estimates that 1 in 4 eligible citizens are not registered to vote; in Florida, that number goes up to about 1 in 3. The goal for 2021 is to register 1 million new voters - so, together, let's get every American citizen registered and #VoteReady!

Here at the library, we can help you fill out a paper registration application or assist you in completing your application online. In Florida, you can register online at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov with your Social Security number and driver's license or state ID card. To be eligible to register to vote in Florida you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States of America;
  • Be a legal resident of Florida;
  • Be a legal resident of the county in which you seek to be registered;
  • Be at least 16 years old to preregister or at least 18 years old to register and vote;
  • Not be a person who has been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting in Florida or any other state without having the right to vote restored; and,
  • Not be a person convicted of a felony without having your right to vote restored.

Alachua County voters uncertain of their status are advised to seek further guidance from our Supervisor of Elections officeIf you do not have a license or state ID card, you must submit your paper registration in person or by mail to your Supervisor of Elections office. If you do not have a license or state ID card and would like one, see the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor vehicle's site for additional information.
