Free Comic Book Day

It's time for Free Comic Book Day! Each year on the first Saturday of May, the comics industry comes together to encourage curious, first-time comic book readers and seasoned comic book fans by providing free comics. Founded on the belief that there is a comic book for everyone to love, the annual event offers a huge selection of free titles designed to appeal to a broad range of age levels and tastes.

Free Comic Book Day is also celebrated at libraries. This year you can celebrate Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 4, at the Millhopper Branch. Come dressed as your favorite character or share your favorite comic book character with us. One free comic book will be given out per person, while supplies last! While you're there, check out the many graphic novels and comic books available for checkout from our collection. Comics distributed at this event have been donated to the Library District by CGC Comics and Diamond Comic Distributors.

Don't forget that you can also check out comic books and graphic novels from any of our 12 library locations with your library card. Don't have a card? Learn about how to get one here. Alachua County residents have access to a large selection of downloadable comics through hoopla. You can also keep the comics coming on hoopla with the Comics Kingdom BingePass. Show us your superpower, super-reader!

Don't forget to come to celebrate Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 4, at the Millhopper Branch.

Share your comic book selections and creations with us on social media by tagging @alachualibrary and using the hashtag #FreeComicBookDay on various platforms.
